Tourism in Andaman and Nicobar Islands is still in development stages. So to keep the fragile eco system safe, many restrictions have been imposed in certain areas. There are mandatory rules that are to be followed by all tourists to these wonder islands. Make sure you are aware of all the rules and regulations on Andaman and Nicobar islands to ensure an enjoyable vacation. Foreign nationals are permitted to stay in the islands for 30 days. If required, the permit can be extended by another 15 days with permission from the Immigration counter at Port Blair Airport or Harbour upon arrival on production of their passports containing a valid Indian Visa. It is absolutely free of cost. With this permit, Night halt are allowed at certain places : South Andaman Island, Middle Andaman Island and Little Andaman Island (except tribal reserve), Neil Island, Havelock Island, Long Island, Diglipur, & Baratang. Indian nationals need no permit to visit Andamans. However, permits are required to visit Nicobar Islands and other tribal areas, which are given in exceptional cases. Application on a prescribed form may be addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Andaman District, Port Blair.
The Andaman group of Islands are well connected by Air and Sea. There are regular passenger ship services available to Port Blair from the Indian cities of Chennai, Kolkata and Vishakapatnam. There are also regular domestic flight services to Port Blair from Chenna, Kolkata, and from New Delhi. From port Blair, one can take ships to different islands in Andaman and to Nicobar Islands. The most favored time to visit Andaman and Nicobar Islands is between October and December as the climate is quite pleasurable. People planning to visit after February can expect slightly humid and warm conditions.
